More things to make you go hmmmm....
Oct. 13th, 2012 09:48 pmWhen I got home tonight the police were out in force at the complex--Three separate vehicles, three officers and a crowd of people. I asked the officer as I came by if it was anything I needed to be concerned about. It turned out to be some sort of "dispute." But he asked me "How have you stood it all these years?" Erm...What does it say that the officer knew I'd lived here for years? He didn't know my name so we introduced ourselves and I answered that I was buying a house. He offered his congratulations and asked where it was. He's been out to the neighborhood of my intended new home recently and they'd told him that "Someone from OSU" was buying it. Now he knows who. I'm ok with that. Cops that know you, are more likely to believe you and respond when they are needed.
I took a few minutes to pass on the information about the blue smoke because it's driving me nutty having it come in through my window every day 24 hours a day. I know, and he confirmed, that someone in the house has a card so it's harder to deal with. I wouldn't care if they weren't dealing and they smoked inside the house where I don't have to breathe it. That and the woman who gets the giggles and sings at the top of her lungs when she's high is a little annoying, especially at 4 am.
Can I reiterate that I'm very excited to be buying a house to get out of this endless round of stupid neighbors? If I have stupid neighbors at the house, it's at least not in quite as close a proximity. (The current owners indicated to my father that the neighbors are good and watch out for each other, though.)
As for the house, provided nothing hinky comes up, we are supposed to close on the 25th. The money for closing is in my account and ready to be passed along. I was able to buy my interest rate down to 2.75% and that brought the payments with escrow (PMI, Flood insurance, taxes, and homeowner's insurance) down to $803 and change. It's a leap but doable. There was supposed to be an estimate on the roof done on Friday but I don't know the results yet. I suspect we'll be doing the electrical work ourselves (we, meaning my dad with my help). I'd hoped to avoid that but the 15 months of homeowner's and flood insurance that had to be paid at closing was a little more than I expected. The vapor barrier may not get done right away. I'd been hoping to take care of it but we'll see what's left after closing and taking care of the roof.
In other news, one of my favorite clothing stores is going out of business. Fashion Bug was the only place I ever found comfortable jeans, leggings that fit well, and dressy t-shirts. I'm bummed! They close their doors at all locations December 1st. *sigh*
