Flood watch 2012....
Jan. 19th, 2012 11:15 pmI drove through 18 inches of water to get home tonight but only felt safe doing so because the safety crews were out wading around in it. The road is now closed and I don't imagine it was too long after I took it that it closed. It was scary! There are all sorts of pictures of the flooding (http://photos.oregonlive.com/oregonian/index.html). Benton County and Corvallis have declared a state of emergency. Albany probably has too but I haven't heard. They had a car washed away and wedged into a culvert. Two lives lost.
Campus is closed tomorrow. I'm glad I don't have to tackle the commute. The Mary's River seems worse than the others in our area right now, hence 99W is closed at Corvallis. I might find a way around but by tomorrow? Who knows?! I'm glad the powers that be made the call tonight. I've officially been to work for 14 hours this week. I worked from home for another 6. (Monday was a holiday. Tuesday was a two hour delay but I worked from home. Wednesday was a two hour delay. Today regular schedule, tomorrow closed.)Oh what fun the weather makes! I guess that means the meeting it took two weeks to schedule will have to be rescheduled. *sigh* Oh well, I'll get to sleep in.
There is a canal that runs by across the street. It's still a good 18 inches below flood level and I hope it stays that way. I'm sure my renters insurance won't cover flood damage (acts of God, you know).
Tonight was knit night for the ladies from our church. Only four showed up but given the weather, it's not unexpected. Mom and I made a massive knot while unraveling half of my work on my sweetheart hat. I didn't like the tension so I'm going to redo it. It would help to sit down and work on it in one sitting so I have more consistancy. I have two patterns to start and I stopped at Fiber, Nooks and Cranny's to get yarn before I came home. I have a silver kidsilk mohair, for Ice queen and a beautiful cobalt blue merino for the Colorado Cashmere wimple (obviously not cashmere) I don't think I'll bead this one because I'm concerned the beads would become entangled with my hair. I'm thinking these will be fairly quick knits but I could be wrong.
I'm going to finish the sweetheart hat before I start either of the wimples. That way I'll get one UFO off my plate before adding another. I also need to hunt for my Krista Tee. The yarn, half finished project, and pattern have disappeared. I'm fairly certain they are here in my house in a ziplock bag but I haven't found them in any of the usual or obvious places. It's a bit bizarre because my house is fairly clean and organized. It's a Mystery!
Anyway, I'm off to bed now where it's at least warm. The house is staying a fairly constant 55 degrees most of the time. I'm getting used to it but I have a space heater when it feels too cold. Hopefully everything IN my house remains dry overnight. We're expecting more rain but I'm sure others would really like the same to be said of their houses too.
