“Happy New Year”

Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I’d nibbled, the eggnog I’d tasted
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).
I’d remember the marvelous meals I’d prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And prepared once again to do battle with these---
I said to myself, as I only can “You can’t spend a winter
Disguised as a man!”

So---away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won’t have a cookie—not even a lick.
I’ll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won’t have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I’ll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I’m hungry, I’m lonesome, and life is a bore---
But isn’t that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot,
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

I can't take credit for the writing, it was forwarded to me but no author's name was attached. I did not have the weight gain problem over the holiday. In fact I lost another 3 lbs. At this point my weight is down 20 lbs since October.

I'm thinking of being a club of one and creating a skirt of the month club. The rules being that I have to make one skirt a month and would use only current stash fabric until my options run out. It's practical and since a lot of my skirts need to have waists altered (which I hate doing) it would ensure a fresh infusion of skirts that fit, at least for awhile. I will have to alter my other skirts eventually.

I'm starting today. Hopefully pictures when I'm done.

All done... It's very shiny. You can barely see the shimmer in the darker picture. I've been sitting on this pile of fabric for months and I've really wanted to get it made up. There are three fabrics and I had to figure out how to put them together. I had a great deal of the fabric with the narrow stripes but it just didn't work to have larger swatches of it with the other two fabrics. I think it turned out well.
