The King and Queen have decided to appoint a Viceroy for Adiantum for the next year. They felt that neither set of candidates had the support of the barony. Rumor (and it is heresay) has it that only 20 poling forms reached them...out of 83 members in the Barony. Wow. I'd rather the Crown appoint a Viceroy than have them randomly choose a couple and then the new Baron and Baroness discover that they don't have the support and resources that they thought they did. We've been there and seen that. It's not pretty. A Baron and Baroness without the resources and support of the populace are rarely successful. They may be the figure heads, and we love them, but it's the resources (human more than monetary) they can muster that make it all work.

I know the candidates are really disappointed...however, I'm really disappointed in what I heard coming out of their mouths when they found out. Loudly denegrating the crown because of their decision, while understandable, does not make you look good.

Hey folks we pretend to live in a Monarchy...that means the King and Queen decide...it's not democracy, in spite of the poling to get opinions.

I feel for the Barony...being from a Barony that went through the Viceroy process twice, it can be a struggle, but good things can come out of it. Marquessa Laurellen was our Viceroy both times, and she was the Best.

Yes, we will. I'm not worried too much about the barony. I'm sorry that feelings are hurt though.

Having gone through the Baronial process (and not been selected), I can understand the disappointment. I'll bet it hurts even more to be told that neither set of candidates is "good enough." I'm feeling pretty bummed about the non-resolution and the limbo state that our Barony will now have to be in for a year. I believe (and those who have been playing in Adiantum longer than I have can correct me if I'm wrong) that this is the first time that Adiantum has had a Viceroy. It feels (illogically, and totally not true, but still feelings) a bit like a punishment--"You didn't send in enough forms! No Baron and Baroness for you!" (Again, I totally know it's not actually like that. The King and Queen are doing this because they want our Barony to be healthy, and because they want to make sure that our Baron and Baroness have the support they need. I do get that.)

Feelings are feelings, regardless of the reasons behind Their Majesties' decision. I'm sure they are good reasons. That doesn't make the decision any less painful, and it doesn't take away the emotion and let-down of this outcome.

Adiantum will be fine. People have the right (and need!) to work through their emotions in the meantime so that we can continue to be a healthy Barony that works together.
