Being Positive

Good afternoon my friends. I've been busy and forgot to post my positives this morning. It occurred to me this morning that this sewing mess is not normal to many people. This is the left over fabric from cutting out a skirt. There are three notable things here. 1) the pattern is too small for me so I had to size up six inches over all. 2) the pattern is missing a piece which means I had to recreate it to make the skirt. 3) according to the pattern, I did not have enough fabric for its sizes, let alone mine, and I had a fabric pattern to match. I have enough leftovers that I could probably make a dress for Lilly. Many people cannot do these things and many more can't sew at all. I learned to sew when I was 7 and it's been a staple in my life since. Knowing how to sew is not necessarily the simple thing it is to me. My mom sews, if she has to, but it frustrates her and is often confusing. It's a blessing that sewing is really quite intuitive to me.

This is the first skirt I completed this morning (except for hand finishing). I have mad skills and did not use a pattern at all. This is a sheer fabric with lace panels over a white heavy weight cotton. Please admire how the lines line up on the seam because that took more time than anything else. More positives. Did you ever notice that store bought clothes rarely have lines that match? Also bespoke clothing (even though you are the maker) almost always fits better than store bought mass market clothing.

 

 

It's awfully nice to feel good in clothing once in a while again. Skirt two down to just hand sewing.


Skirt three but it has lots of hand sewing. Hawaii fabric.


I lost the light so the pictures aren't the best quality. This is Capala the Ukrainian dance company. Their costumes were so beautiful and the dances very energetic.
