hlmauera: (Panther)
I have not picked up my knitting needles in months.  Not because I don't want to, but because there are so many other things that I need to do.

I'm still plodding along in my Stats class and have a very solid A.  I missed only one question on the first midterm and I knew what I did wrong the moment I looked at it.  Our second midterm is next Friday.  I'm just as nervous but a little more settled.

I'm still working on the CAL (crochet a long) with Kym but I haven't even gotten very far on it.  The fourth pattern is due to be released on Tuesday and I haven't even completed one of the second pattern (they are hexagons- four and four halves each pattern so far) let alone the third.  I'll get there eventually but it maybe later in the summer.

I have finally finished the sewing I wanted to get done for Johanna.  The best thing about this set of projects is that, because we have nearly the same measurements, I could test the fit myself without calling her for a fitting more frequently.  That made it easier to move along.  I'm excited to hand it off to her.  Marian is finishing or has finished the burgundy dress so she should now have two underdresses, two over dresses, and a work tunic.  We have additional fabric for tunics but we have to turn our eyes to making ourselves not naked for Egils.

In that vein, I cut out three tunics and have sewn them together.  One is completely finished, except the seam finishing which can wait, if it has to, until after egils. I really want to embroider this one but Im not sure what pattern to put on it.The tunic is a beautiful heavy linen in a dark magenta.  I'd like to embroider on it in a navy or dark blue.  One of the other tunics has just half of the hem to finish (and the seam finishes).  The last one still needs all the hand finishing.  I have also linen to be cut out and made up yet- two yellow tunics, one green tunic and two blue but I may wait on the blue since they are very similar in color to the one I just completed. I think I will try to get the yellow and green tunics made up before Egils.

The bump in this particular road is that I have fabric to make my little niece clothes in patterns that are 9-12 month sizes....she's nine months now and I need to get those made up before she outgrows them.  Mom and Dad are headed down to CA next week so I think at least a portion of this weekend will need to be devoted to that process so I can send them with them.

Last weekend, Shondalea came out and helped me with my weeding.  She almost finished the rose garden while I cleaned out the dahlia bed, replaced the sprinkler system, and planted the dahlias.  Later in the week I got the big weeds pulled out of all of the front flowerbeds so it looks a little more respectable.  There is just something about three foot high weeds that makes a place look disreputable.  I pruned the lilac and the camilia so they aren't growing into the gutters.   I also borrowed a weed wacker from my dad and took down the weeds and grass that are growing in the alley alongside my house.  I am still going to have to poison some of the weeds that are entwined with the arborvidae.  I can't get between the bushes and the fence to get them out.  I don't like to use poison because our water comes from the aquafer under the city but I hope it has a chance to dissipate before it gets to the actual water table. I still have baby trees to pull out of a corner in the back yard and the garden beds are solid weeds.

I also really need to get my garden put in.  I'd hoped to do that this weekend but it looks like it's going to rain all weekend.   I may still try to do some of it.  Maybe I'll get my seedlings and see if I can get any weeding done.  The rain will help to soften the soil at least.  I think the baby sewing has to come first though.  Maybe the rain will ensure that happens.
