No cheap fix...
Aug. 20th, 2015 09:34 pmIt turns out I do have roadside assistance and it covers towing for 14 miles. I am, unfortunately, 30 miles from my mechanic's shop. The insurance gave me a discount on the difference and the car was headed to the shop before 10:00. Added bonus, the tow truck driver was a Val Kilmer look alike. I take my little thrills where I can get them, I guess.
The news from the mechanic wasn't good. The car's timing belt broke. Probably the third most expensive thing to fix on a car, since they have to drop the engine and disassemble the casing. I assume they'll get me a quote in the morning but I don't have much choice but to have it fixed. I don't know where I will find the 1000 or more dollars it will cost but I can't afford a new car either.
I'm ready for some good news and good fortune. But I'm thankful it got me here where I am safe and with people who will make sure I'm taken care of.
