Finally looked at houses....
Apr. 23rd, 2012 08:16 pmIt didn't start well. The gingerbread house in Harrisburg won't allow people to view it until after they've driven by. It's RIGHT on the railroad track and built in 1870. I knew all that before they told me I had to drive by. It would be impossible to resale so I won't go back. *sigh* It was really really cute.
The house on Elm is awful...smells like grandma's house, serious leaks, not eligble for an FHA loan because of the poor condition.
The foreclosure on Crona...felt icky, like it was closing in on me. Tiny bedrooms that MIGHT fit my queen size bed and a dresser with about two feet to spare. Nice location, new roof, good paint but painted panelling and everything looks cheap.
We couldn't see the house on Thane or 120 Saxon. We did see 145 Saxon and liked it really well. It's at the top of my price range but if they'd pay closing so I could put $10K down the payments would be fine. It has a nice yard that butts up against the canal which seperates it from the high school ball fields. It's a quiet neighborhood and the neighbor confirmed that it's usually that way. The local kook lives two doors down but they say he's nice, just a bit weird (which his wife apparently confirms as well). The bedrooms are larger and the kitchen, although not large has good cupboard spaces. I would need a small dining room table. The master bedroom has a .25 bath (toilet and sink so not quite a half bath). The garage has alot of built in storage. The space for the washer and drier are in a closet in the hall with built in cupboards above it. The carpeting would need replaced but would be ok for now. The living room isn't huge but would be adequate. It has a nice large yard with established landscaping although there is nothing smooth or level about it. A small porch/patio opens off the dining room, but it's not really large enough for anything but pots of plants and maybe a chair. Over all, I could live in it and I think I'd be happy.
We will see the other Saxon house at 6:00 tomorrow, so I'll be late getting to Marian's for the evening but probably not too late. It's nice from the outside but nearly 15K more. The yard is 2000-3000 sq. feet less the other Saxon house, it has low profile toilets which I don't like, and the property taxes are higher but it has about 20 sq feet more space in the house. The measurements on the bedrooms seem to be smaller so the extra space is in the living area. It will be interesting to see it.
