I'm ready for this move to be over, but I haven't actually packed much of my own office yet. It's hard to pack when you still need to use it. So I'll probably pack tomorrow.

The furniture started being delivered and installed on Monday. As far as I know they've only run into one door frame with the carts. I have an appointment at 3:00 tomorrow to do a walk through and confirm delivery of all items. Our High Density storage won't arrive until mid January so we'll have to take the old filing system for now. The plush furniture and some tables will arrive sometime between January and April. I found that we didn't have enough existing chairs to furnish the building as planned. After we get moved I'll have to order more chairs. We'll make do until then.

I made the request to transfer the cable today. Telephones are on track to move Monday and Tuesday. Copiers are on track to move at the same time. CN will be here to unhook computers on Friday. I've told faculty not to expect them to be hooked back up until the following Friday or Monday. They've also been told to make themselves scarce and work from home. I've filled out key request slips and they'll go into the new mailboxes for faculty to pick up after the move. We are working on packing up all the administrative supplies but I feel like we are running way behind. I need to get the HR files packed up today.

I still need to purchase 4 Macs today. Fortunately, I just go through the bookstore. Then I'll have CN set them up with the virtual interface so we can run both PC and Mac software on them. Hopefully that won't take forever.

However, in spite of all this mess, I'm leaving early to go see Carrie. The diagnosis is severe ulcerative colitis. She's going to be released from the hospital tomorrow but there will be some lifestyle changes in her future.

Then I'm off to knit night and Friday night I'm taking dad Christmas shopping for Mom.

Tonight was knit night with the ladies from my church. We had a great time. Mom made wassail and everyone enjoyed it (not shocking!)
Afterwards my dad asked me to help him for a few minutes. He's getting older and can't do what he used to (also not shocking). It turns out he had a balast of florescent lights that needed the bulbs changed. So first we tried to climb one on each side of the ladder and he put his end in and I tried to put my end in. Anyone that has tried to change tube lights knows it's never quite that easy. Finally in an effort to line it up just right, I let dad put his end in and then I tried to use my finger to ascertain where the tines were. I managed to get a finger across both electrodes and discovered that dad had NOT unplugged the balast. THAT was shocking! Yikes! My finger is still tingling but it could have been worse. It wasn't a large shock and I didn't fall off the ladder. However, I did insist that he let me climb up and sit on the top of the ladder to do it myself. And I unplugged the balast. It was much easier that way.
