Summary of last week
Jul. 18th, 2011 10:04 amMy week was pretty busy. I’m trying to break in the new dean and figure out how to work with him. Every administrator has different needs. Sam was pretty self sufficient but Larry appears to need a keeper. Sometimes that’s what is needed but it does become a little problematic when there are other things that need done. Larry came to us from the non-computer age. He didn’t have an electronic calendar which meant that no one else could help him schedule all the meetings that are essential for a dean to attend. Fortunately, he recognized the necessity and we got him online but since he doesn’t know how to use the software yet it’s still a bit challenging. He appears to be the stereotypical absent minded professor. I’m glad that I will only temporarily be his assistant but I know that I will be working closely with him as I manage the finance and HR of the college. It’s best to figure out now what works and what doesn’t.
I also appear to be working my way through a dermatological reaction to something. I have hives covering my stomach and speckling my arms. It started last Wednesday and I'm still finding new spots. I have no idea what caused it but it’s prickly and itchy (not poison oak either)! I hope it goes away soon!
I’m excited to be getting away from work to go camping with the family. Mora, Allan and the kids are coming over from Boise. Therin and Tami are coming up and Mom and Dad have reserved space for all of us at Trinity Lake in Bushytail campground. Mom and Dad and Mora and Allan are planning to arrive on Monday. I’m heading down on Wednesday and Therin and Tami are going to head out after work on Wednesday. I’m really looking forward to spending some time with everyone and getting away and into the woods, even if it’s a campground. The funny thing is that, it’s been so long since I’ve been camping outside of the SCA, I have to buy clothes. Everything in my closet is professional or exercise wear. I don’t even have any pants anymore- at least that aren’t yoga pants. So…I had to go shopping. How horrible. ;>) I now have two pair of jeans, a pair of denim shorts, a pair of denim capris, a pair of knit capris and two pairs of knit shorts, along with about 8 t-shirts. Certainly that's more than I'll need for one camping event but it's always good to have these things for outdoor activities.
I’ve been thinking about what project I can take with me to work on. I'm still working on the Sunflower lap-ghan. However, since the recipient will be there, I can’t take it with me.
I’m getting ready to start a crocheted quilt from Happy Yellow House for Robert and Carrie. I’m going to do the Around the World quilt for them. Someday I hope to do the Blackford’s Beauty quilt for myself (The Ravelry picture is much better). There are some gorgeous patterns here and since I don’t want to learn to quilt but I love the look of quilts, this might be an interesting alternative. The quilt pieces are made of granny squares so they are transportable but I’d have to take quite a load of yarn for the Around the World Quilt so I probably won’t work on it while camping.
I think I’ll probably take the Krista Tee. Look! I even got a picture!

It’s not hard to work on and it’s not huge. It consists of a front, back and two sleeves so it’s quite transportable. However, it is cotton which is a little harder on the hands to knit with.
So I’ll probably want to take a relief project as well. I still need to finish my second cadence sock. That would be a good one. Let’s see what else is on my Ravelry projects…Oh yes, I need to start the last hat for Loni. It’s the Nine Dwindling Cables pattern. I have a pretty Yak/Merino blend for that in a deep burgundy. Those three projects should be plenty, don’t you think? I live in horror of running out of things to work on while I’m away so I tend to over pack my projects. Still, a little variety is good.
I’ve finished 3 of the 4 hats for Loni.

They all look kinda similar since they are all berets but there are differences that are more apparent on the head.
Anyway, back to work. I only have two days this week!
