Why is it that when you are sewing against a deadline (i.e. Robert is going to Egils. Robert has one tunic. This will not work for 4-5 days), the surger always decides it needs a car ride?

I assume it must just want a ride because there is never a darn thing wrong with it when I get to the repair shop. I rethreaded the stupid thing 5 times and it still wouldn't work. I take it to the shop, she rethreads it, just in case, and it works perfectly. Her rethreading doesn't appear to be any different than mine. Stupid #@&#*@*& machine!

I got a pair of wool pants and one tunic done today. I need to swap out the elastic in the pants- it's not quite strong enough to hold the wool up. (Yes, I know, but he's not going to fuss with a drawstring! Although if the elastic doesn't work, that may be the next fix) I had a second tunic done except for the seam finishing when the surger decided it needed a break. Since I'm in a hurry, I'm machine sewing everything and surging the seams. I don't have time to hand finish and embroider. Maybe next time. He has a hand finished and embroidered over tunic that he can wear over the top. (For some reason, although he's seen me do it every time I wear a tunic, it never occurred to him that you could layer them- silly boy) I have one more to do, but the blue is just a bit bright for his preference (cornflower rather than navy) so I am going to mix some brown into the tunic to tone it down to his rather drab taste in color. (Believe me, we've gone around and around. All he wants to wear is black. I've flatly refused to make another black tunic but I'll try to keep the colors on the dingy side- much to my disappointment and irritation).

Tomorrow after church, I'll see if I can finish up. I absolutely hate, hate, HATE sewing at the last moment. When Murphy shows up, you can't just stop until he's gone, you have to keep swearing through the foul-ups. And he ALWAYS shows up when you have a deadline.

Onward....which at this moment means, to bed.
