Intruders?

It's 3:45 and the police are looking through my back yard and neighborhood for whomever tried to go through my backyard, over or beside the cattery and fence. They made quite a ruckus- woke me up. I delayed calling the police because I thought it might be an animal, until I heard someone whistling for them--A signal whistle. Then I called the police. It scared me half to death. I'm waiting now for them to come tell me what they found, if anything. When I called they said that they had had an altercation nearby so I'm thinking maybe someone ran. They certainly weren't being careful not to make any noise.

I notice that they have someone on the ground across the street and that they have the canine unit out. Unfortunately, it looks like one of the neighbors at least knows the person because they are over there as well. Well if it was a neighbor...I guess they deserve the same fright they've given me.

The police left without talking to me. So I went back to bed, only to hear more noise in the backyard. So I called again. They sent the canine unit in but he didn't find anything. So I met the officer at the door. He said he'd sent the dog through twice and he didn't find anything. But I told him I'd heard the noise in the well that goes under the house. He seemed confused by that so I took him out back to show him...at which point he found someone hiding in the well, perhaps partially under the house. His dog was confused by the fence and wasn't able to back him up. The guy was drunk and belligerent but crawled out when he called for the dog. He ended up bringing the dog through my house (much to the delight of my cats *heavy sarcasm*) after a second officer showed up. The dog apparently needs some more training. He cowered rather than guarded. Poor thing was really confused and not very helpful. So they've arrested the man, who turns out to be the upstairs neighbor (who beat up his wife tonight) and carted him away. I feel a little vindicated--it wasn't my imagination. My floors are filthy though--dirty doggie prints, and two officers and a suspect tramped through after being in the muddy back yard. I'll have to clean them tonight.

Unfortunately, My alarm will go off in 15 minutes so as of 3:20 I was up for the day. *sigh*
