Day one Dairy free....
Aug. 7th, 2009 08:11 amI think I forgot to mention that the doctor wants me on a totally dairy free diet for 10 days. This causes a big problem for me because apparently everything in my house and the work freezer has cheese in it. And what doesn't have cheese has to be prepared with butter. So...no lean pockets for breakfast or lunch. No rice-a-roni, noodle-roni, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes (or potatoes because ewww dry potatoes?). No Slim Fast powder in my soy milk...the list is much longer than I like. As a result, there was nothing in my house I could eat on the go this morning.
I stopped at Safeway and picked up an everything bagel but then got frustrated because in the entire store they had only ONE dairy free spread. It turns out that Tofutti is okay- doesn't taste like or have the texture of tofu. But I was hoping for something savory. *sigh* I guess I'll have to go looking for specialty stores. I don't know if Trader Joes has anything and I'm not sure where else to look.
I thought I was pretty aware when I was eating dairy but apparently not. My biggest grump? I can't have my Chai at work (Cause Chai with soy milk is awful! Really, really horrendous!)
The reality is that this is probably not a great time to try this, since I'm on antibiotics for an infection and they have a similar effect to lactose. So it may be 15 days dairy free to make a good trial period. *sigh, grumble, grump*
