I'm working on the Sunflower lap-ghan as a Christmas present. I made the first granny square and thought the sunflower looked a little anemic

So I added three double crochets into each yellow post and along the top of the chain one between the double crochets. (*slip stitch to right hand post of first petal, working left DC 3 on post, DC three on Chain 1 space, DC 3 on next post, slip stitch on same post, repeat from *)It raises the flower off the surface and gives it more definition.

Looking at them side by side I can see that there is some merit to not having the extra bulk, the flower is clearer but I still think it looks anemic and will continue my way. What do you think?

I think it would be kinda cool to alternate, but to shose one I'd go for the fuller one!

I agree with your assessment - could you try a third sample that is in between?

I think it will be a very cheery afghan when you are done.

agreed

without the extra bulk, the flower kind of disappears into the greenery rather than 'pops' like a sunflower should (in my opinion of course). Seems more like a tiny daisy rather than a sunflower in the minimal one. Alternating could be interesting.
