Tuesday experiments (ETA another picture)
Jun. 28th, 2011 10:36 pmWe made crystallized rose petals today for Josh's vigil.
First we collected a lot of these:

Then we whipped an egg white:

Grabbed our paint brushes and began to paint petal by petal:

After a while my hands had so much egg on them that I could almost put the paint brush down and use my fingers to spread the egg.

Then we sprinkled them with super fine sugar (we put granulated sugar through a blender):

Sugar laden petals:

Interestingly enough, different colors of petals absorbed the sugar at different rates.

The trays of petals went into the dehydrator but there was a bit of sugar left behind.

Marian will take pictures when they come out of the dryer.
