Truly horrible fiction....

I've read some truly horrible fiction lately. Nothing I particularly want to elucidate on but it's been kind of depressing. I'm looking for a book with a happy ending and humor. It doesn't have to be all happy. I want to be able to get involved with the characters. Romance is good, but not absolutely necessary. I do want something a little light. I feel like I'm bearing a lot of burdens already without adding fictional ones. I like SF/fantasy but I'm not too into futuristic or dystopian fantasy. Paranormal is okay. Historical can be fun. Mysteries are good. Free is wonderful and I have the kindle app.

I would like to read a finished and well edited book. I'm tired of feeling like I should drag out my red pen when I read. If there is sex, I'd like it to not be written like WBTM men's porn. I'd like to see some strength of character and I'm not into stupid characters or chronically stupid behavior.

Any recommendations for this apparently picky reader?
