hlmauera: (Happy Baby)
For the first time in 10 years, I am living in a house that is a comfortable temperature during the winter. See, even in my apartment, I had to leave the ceiling heat off because it simply went up to the upstairs apartment and I didn't want to pay for that. I'm a little concerned about the cost of running the heat pump because I just don't know what it will be. Right now the fan is always on and I'm not sure if that's what's supposed to be, if it's not on the right setting, or if it's still trying to get the house warmed up. They originally set the temperature at 72 which is too warm for me. I turned it down to 68 and this morning even that was a little too warm so I turned it down to 65. I'm not sure the passive returns are going to work for the spare room and the sewing room. Both were still really cold this morning. I opened the door to the guest room since I know I'm having company next weekend and I want it to be warm in that room. I don't like to leave it open because the goal is to keep the cats out, but I'm hoping, if I get it warm, I can shut the door and the passive return will keep it warm. I really need to get the AC unit out of that window so there isn't a constant stream of cold air going in. I'm going to try to tackle that this weekend. It would be better if I had help but I don't know that anyone is available and well, frankly, I'm not good at asking.

It was so very lovely last night to not have to bundle up like a babushka and sit under a blanket to be comfortable. It was wonderful this morning to not be shivering as I was getting showered and dressed for work. It was fantastic to not have to "hover" because the toilet seat feels like a block of ice. I'm really happy to have the new heat pump; I think it's going to work very well. Thank you, Mom and Dad.

I do know that the air circulation system works pretty well because I burned my quesadilla last night and the entire house eventually smelled like burnt tortilla. *wry smile*
