It's going to be a noisy night....
Dec. 31st, 2011 08:18 pmThe upstairs neighbor's party is in full swing. The music is completely comprendable through the ceiling and is vibrating the walls. I was hoping for a quiet night at home, since parties aren't my thing, but if I want any quiet, I'll have to go stay at Mom and Dad's. It's not as comfortable and without the dog, every noise freaks me out.
At about 10:00 this morning I had the thought, "It would sure be nice to start the new year with a clean house." Then I looked around and thought "Yeah, RIiiiiight!" And then I went shopping (oh dear I really shouldn't do that)! However, I've been doing little bits here and there to pick things up. I've got a pile of things to go to Goodwill (Mom told me if she bought me clothes for Christmas I had to go through my closet and get rid of the stuff I don't wear). I have moved the clothes that I like but that don't fit right now into the spare room closet. I've put away the Christmas paper and bows (in new storage containers instead of falling apart paper boxes). I sorted through stuff on my spare bed. I know what's there now, I just don't know where to put it. I actually have a pretty clear path through the room now and could actually sew.
Everything feels very damp and I've got a construction crew coming on Monday to assess the water issue in my apartment- I've had water leaking through door frames and behind the breaker panel. It feels clammy. Clothes left laying in the spare room are actually damp. It's nasty! It's bad enough that the property manager asked me if I'd thought about moving. He thinks they might have a duplex coming open which would be fantastic if I can afford it.
My adventures in shopping netted me some very good deals today, but also drained my pocket book significantly. I bought a new pair of Danskos to replace the black ones that have developed a nasty and irritating squeak. These have no buttons to constantly break off but they have a nice decorative band instead.
In early December I picked up a pretty metallic tank with some nice beading on it thinking that I had a black shrug that I could wear with it. Unfortunately, I was forgetting that it has embroidery on it...too sweet for the slink of the top. So today I went back to Torrid and got the silver and black sweater that went so well with it. I also picked up a mauve sweater with metallic threads (it's pretty AND shiny), and a heavier white shrug with a toggle front closure.
At Claire's I discovered that the fastener is back in style and I bought a couple of feather ones for fun.
At Lane Bryant they had a lot of their sweaters on sale and clearance items for 50% off. I picked up 3 new tanks (one to replace the one the washing machine ate), two graphic cardigan type sweaters, and a black shrug with beading.
A quick run through Kohls netted me a nice white lace sweater. Then I was off to Walmart where I picked up two knit nightgowns, discounted Christmas wrap, the new organizational pieces to store said wrap and the stuff at home, and two DVDs, one of which has four movies. I wanted to get a copy of "What a girl wants" because when I watched it at my aunt and uncle's house I thought it was hilarious. They only had it on the four pack so I also have "A Cinderella Story," "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," and "Chasing Liberty." I also picked up a copy of "Mama Mia."
My last stop was at the AT&T store and it was far more expensive than I'd hoped. My parents have been complaining that when I'm wearing my bluetooth they can't understand me. So I was looking for a bluetooth headset that had noise cancellation. I found one but I haven't had a chance to see how well it works. They encouraged me to bring it back within 30 days if it doesn't work like I hope.
When I got home and totaled up the damaged, I flinched a bit...nothing I couldn't cover but more than I intended to spend. Still, I'm pleased with my purchases. I deliberately did not buy some books that looked interesting and instead searched for the kindle versions on Amazon. The first book in one of the series was only $2.99 so I picked it up and decided to wait to see if I liked it before I bought any of the rest...how reasonable.
Now I'm hungry and cold but I don't think there is anything open now other than fast food. Hmmm....guess I'll have to go figure something out.
Enjoy your New Year's Eve!
