Remember the apples?...
Oct. 12th, 2011 12:13 amWe started with 5 five-gallon buckets. Marian managed to get two buckets processed between Saturday and today so today Marian, Trudi, and I sat down to finish chopping them up.

Three buckets later we had apples everywhere:

On every counter space and in bags to be frozen

On the table

In the freezer

In the crockpot
There were also several jars of apple sauce that Marian had already canned and we made seven more pints tonight.
There were also lessons in tomato sauce...
Tomatoes cannot be left to stew in a crockpot for 2 days...the acidity goes through the roof and a great deal of baking soda is required to make it food again. We managed to save it but it won't be the best sauce on record. It will work fine for lasagna and other food products that get covered with cheese! Oh and baking soda and tomato sauce....it makes a lovely fiz so add slowly!
And...Marian proudly shows off her pantry:
