I got my adrenaline rush this morning...
Jan. 29th, 2010 08:46 amThe police executed a search warrant on the upstairs neighbor this morning (the one kitty corner from me). I was still home (7:05) eating my breakfast but it went something like this...
Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp (up the stairs). Knock, knock, knock. "Police, we have a search warrant, open up....Pound pound pound (door get's pounded in). Pop! (was this a smoke bomb?) From the SUV with flashing lights out front "XXX E 7th Apartment number 3 we have a search warrant, please comply" (x2) Lots of heavy boots running up the stairs. Yelling. Then quiet.
Now about this time I really needed to leave for work. I'd eaten my breakfast as slowly as I could to give them time to take care of the situation. I cautiously stuck my head out the door to find a black clad police officer guarding it. He was pleasant and relatively laid back.. "Do you need to leave?"
"Yes please, I need to go to work. Is it safe to come out?" He smiled, nodded and escorted me to my car, staying, at all times, between me and the stairwell. I did not leave so quickly that I did not I notice that this particular search warrant was executed by about a dozen police officers in 4-5 black unmarked SUVs(The one in front of the building may have been marked; it was the one with the flashing lights). I know Junction City doesn't have this type of police force. Dad doesn't think State or County have the black SUVs. Could have been federal, I suppose. It seems rather unlikely.
We've been suspicious that the occupant of the apartment was either dealing drugs or a prostitute. I'd say the police think drugs. I really wasn't joking when I said I lived on the wrong side of the tracks in Junction City. My heart is still racing a bit almost two hours later.
