Over due update...
Aug. 25th, 2009 10:13 amThis update is over due but I've been struggling with the fact that I haven't seen most of you in months and I'm not sure anyone cares what's going on. Still I think this is more for my own recollection later so here it goes...
I made it through the 10 day lactose free diet. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't terribly fun either. I've now added back in baked goods and limited amounts of cheese when unavoidable (like when eating some place where food options are limited i.e. someone else's house or a cafeteria setting) Otherwise, I'm trying to be really careful. I miss cheesy pasta and pizza though. Those are the items I'm having the hardest time living without.
I'm still working on my shawl; I definitely missed my deadline. However, it's for me, so my deadline is flexible. Last night I had 5 rows to go and the bind off. So is it done? No, I still have 4 rows to go. Why isn't it done? Well I've reached the point where each row has 431 stitches and takes about 45 minutes to complete. I can't wait to finish but I really don't have 4 hours in a row to just sit and knit either. I'm not setting any speed records but the pattern still looks correct. So it will get done soon but not immediately. Maybe Thursday...
On Monday my cousin posted this little bit of information.
( More )
It made me think about the desire to get into a housing situation where I could have a small garden and maybe a couple of chickens to supplement the food I buy at the store. My family has always had a garden and although it's a lot of work, it does help with the food budget. I suppose in the long run it also helps the earth....Maybe just a little tiny bit.
I've been hoping to get into a duplex that I could share with Robert and Carrie but right now there is only one for sale in all of the local area and the rentals are well beyond what I could afford. So for now, I guess I just sit on the idea. If it's meant to be it will work out at some point. Next year I'll look at what I can do with container gardening. The only disadvantage is that with all the pots out front, I'd be lucky to get anything I've grown before other neighbors make off with it (my poor rose bushes have been mutilated by sticky fingers!)
For the short term, my goal is to make my own space livable again. My walls are closing in on me so it's time to find creative storage solutions or get rid of some stuff. I'm going to tackle the spare room on Saturday. It's gotten to be monstrously cluttered with piles of stuff I don't want elsewhere in the house. I have other storage places that I need to be making better use of. I wish I could get my camping gear out of the house but I don't want to invest in a storage unit and I have no garage or other storage options. I desperately want to have a usable spare room which is going to take some work in the organization department.
Once the house is decluttered and my shawl is finished I have some sewing I want to get done. It doesn't take me long to sew things but I don't particularly enjoy it so I put it off. My sewing machine is working fine. There are a couple of fussy moments in the threading that no one told me about until this last time I took it in (this little light has to be on so that everything is in precisely the correct position). When I pay attention to them I don't have any issues with the machine. I currently have nearly all of the modern fabrics piled on my kitchen table, which is part of why the walls are closing in.
Speaking of modern, or the opposite thereof, I am missing the SCA, but not camping (well, I miss camping too but not set up and tear down). So I'm thinking about day tripping to Crown next Saturday. It would mean missing my game or going late and not spending time with Robert and/or Carrie on Saturday. I'll have to think hard about that one; not that the game is that important but the time with Robert and/or Carrie is. *pondering*
Well, I think I could say a lot more but I should probably stop before you get tired of reading it all. I'm thinking of you all and hoping everyone has a good day, in spite of whatever circumstances in which you find yourself.
