No slip ups yet, at least not in eating. I did buy some things that ended up having milk products as an ingredient. Fortunately, Mom is buying my milk products off of me. I was able to find two different brands of milk based cheese that are naturally lactose free. They ferment them to remove the lactose. So I actually have cheddar, gouda, havarti and swiss in lactose free form. I haven't tried any yet but I had some similar ones at a friends and they were as good as the original. I also picked up an almond based "cheese," a soy based spread and a hummas spread. In my defiance I also picked up lots of junk food of which I will have to be very careful in my consumtion. I have been continuously amazed at what has lactose in it. For example potato chips with any flavoring tend to have a whey based flavor.

Today I was able to eat out twice and still avoid lactose. It wasn't easy. We ate at Sizzlers and I had ribs and broccoli instead of potatoes. There was next to nothing on the salad bar I could eat and most fried foods have milk in their batter. However, their soft serve ice cream is actually a milk free product made of soy and it was also quite tasty. You'll note that at no place in the restaurant does it mention that. Soy allergies beware. At Subway, I got my usual sub without cheese and while it wasn't the same, it was still quite tasty. No cookies though which was disappointing. I have angel food cake here at home though so if I get too hungry for sweets I can have a bite of that.

Unfortunately, the antibiotic I am on is causing a lot of nausea. That and the horrific headache I aquired this morning have made eating less than a desired occasion. I won't starve for eating less anyway. Especially at the grocery prices I'm paying. There is nothing quite like having to buy groceries twice in one month. The antibiotics do make it difficult to determine how well the diet is working but so far I've been successful in following it without feeling tooooo deprived.
