Day 3?

Today was the Murphy day to end all Murphy days. I had two things on my agenda first thing, schedule two rooms for meetings today and double check the database, since it wasn't working for SueAnn yesterday.

I made the call to the schedule desk but got no answer for 2 hours. I called the registrar's office and they informed me that oh yes, the schedule person is out until tomorrow. Fortunately, the associate registrar was able to get me the rooms I needed, sort of. It appears that we misread the room schedule when we sent out the announcement for the additional meetings today but we got it squared away in a different room. We had several other room kerfluffles through out the day but it all worked out

In the mean time, in preparation for my 8:45 meeting with the reviewer interested in our data and database, I opened the database and got a "server not found" error. Um "WHAT!" I call every number in my directory for my database programmers. No answers. In desperation I call my network group and they suggest the name of the server administrator. But at that point I was in tears. I call him and he jumps into action...well sort of. Turns out the university has screwed up the DNS server so that none of their applications were available by address on the campus. However, he gave me the IP address and I was able to log in directly that way. And he understood my urgency!

Then my computer freezes- our network drives are out of commission and it's made a mess of the routing. Ok What next? I restart my computer and it seems to think it can do ok even without the network drives.

I had my meeting, it went decently and the data nazi seemed to think that the database had great potential. (He's from a university that has more students than Corvallis has population)

Tamara calls me and asks me to attend the Governance meeting to represent the Financial affairs committee at 3:30. Ok no problem.

SueAnn keeps coming in and asking for new data sets. Most were easy but the question about ethnicity of students by program was not so easy. I swear we've done this already but it would be on the network drive which, of course, isn't working. I worked through my lunch trying to finish that quickly for her. By the time I finished, my blood sugar was low enough that my face was buzzing and I was stumbling when I walked. Sara reminded me I still had the Local Boyz platter in the fridge so I took half an hour and had lunch.

When I came back, one of the faculty notified me that her heater was spewing water all over her office floor. Yeesh! I called facilities to have it repaired and they came right out but not before her rug was black with water and all the cardboard boxes under the desk were soaked through.

One of the reviewers caught me at about 5:15 because her computer had quit working. I think it over heated... It was burning hot to the touch. She couldn't turn it on and, well, I can't do much about that. I recommended she let it cool and then try again. She put it in the refrigerator.

That was the last disaster of the normal working day. I'm going to try to go sit in the hotel hot tub for a while now. I'm taking my phone of course.
