hlmauera: (Path)
Since I had no plans on Friday night, Mom and Dad invited me to go out to dinner with them and stay the night so we could get an early start Saturday morning. We ran into one of my high school acquaintances at Home Town Buffet. He and I sang together in the jazz choir my freshman and sophomore year. He had a lovely voice (his wife assures me he still does) and a great sense of humor. I remember him with affection but I haven't seen him for 18 years. We spoke for a little bit and I have his contact information and we plan to get together for coffee to catch up. It was so good to see him. It's amazing how seeing one person from the past got my mind thinking about high school all weekend long.

Saturday Mom and I got an early start working on the Dahlias. I love Dahlias but they are a pain in the neck in the fall. Each tuber has to be dug up, dried, divided, labeled and placed in a ventalated container with sulfer and peat moss. Mom has probably 50 tubers each of which has generated 25-50 new tubers. This is the third weekend we've worked on them. I started a pair of socks before we got started and worked on them in my down times. It was a short work day (read short money) but this week is a short week and it shouldn't be to bad. I won't get to buy anything but gas but I have enough other things, I'd just hoped to buy a little more palatable food for my lunches. I'll manage though for three days.

We had to leave at noon to go to Vancouver for Grandpa's 90th birthday party. It was quite a surprise to him and most of the family was there. I have a new cousin (My cousin's baby) in Sweden, another little girl. Poor Walker he now has 3 girls and I'm sure he was hoping for a boy. I haven't seen them since the first girl was a baby-hard to stay in contact with an ocean and a continent between us.

I spent the trip up and back knitting on my socks. I got 5-6 inches knitted but realized that it was too large for my brother's gf. (It was actually too large for me and she has smaller legs) So after trying a variety of decreases, I decided I should just tear it all out and start over. I'd agonized over the gauge and what it meant when I made my gauge swatch- The ribbing was a different gauge from the stockinette stitch; I chose the wrong number. So today I've been cleaning a little, knitting a little, napping a little...
