Glasses and other frustration
Mar. 10th, 2007 05:25 pmWith vociferous protests I am trying to resign myself to the fact that my opthamalogist wants me to wear glasses.....just for reading, working on the computer, close work, and driving. When exactly am I not supposed to wear them? That looks like 12 hours a day on weekdays.
After a few frustrated tears ('cause who wants to wear glasses and who can afford them)I called a friend to come help me pick out some frames (Thanks Ceridwen). So although my vision insurance sucks, between it and the store discount I am only out ~$300 instead of $600+. Since I have to wear glasses for driving and the nice optician pointed out that the lenses that darken don't do so in a vehicle because of the treated glass, I had to buy a second pair in sunglass form. *groan* The thing that really sucks is, my vision is 20/20. However, my astigmatism makes it very difficult to focus and the effort that requires is giving me eyestrain. And yes, I was correct, my left eye is much worse than my right. My right eye compensates pretty well, hence the 20/20 vision. The doctor insisted I would feel and see better with the glasses and he was very reluctant to prescribe contacts. (Something about my eyes not adjusting as well to hard contacts now as they did when I was a teenager) He also pointed out that it's expensive to replace contacts and I'm much more likely to lose a contact than a pair of glasses. It's logical, I just don't have to like it.
I picked out frames that, well, aren't. There is no frame around the lenses at all. They are almost literally feather-weight. I'm hoping they disappear more that way and don't bother my ears quite as much. Yes I know vanity is a terrible thing, but I don't wanna wear glasses again! *whine* I probably won't get them for about two weeks.
I did think of one place I don't have to wear them...At SCA events, unless I'm working on a project or reading for more than 30 minutes.
Sewing didn't happen today. I might try later, but the doctor visit, an oil change, and a few errands have used up the entire day. I managed to get most of the pattern made this morning so hopefully I can get it done tomorrow. I am wondering, vaguely, when I'm going to do my laundry.
