hlmauera: (Sleepy Kitty)
So yesterday I was pukey, runny, sore throat sick. Not pleasant. Today I have a sore throat and laryngitis. Fun fun. I went ahead and went to work today. I can't talk which makes dealing with students and faculty interesting. The staff and I are brushing up on our sign language. :>)

Soooooo, 12th night...
The roads to the event were mostly ok. Fearga had difficulty getting down out of the mountains and the road to Ocean Shores was a bit dicey but we made it in one piece and without much drama. We had lots of fun giggling and gossiping and sharing information all the way there. It was great to connect with everyone again.

Once at the event (3:30 Friday eve), we pulled out the sewing machine, hand sewing, steamer and iron and went to work finishing up the bits and pieces. I tacked down the sleeves on the dress Fearga loaned me, sewed buttons on Trudchen's dress, and tacked frogs on a commission for Fearga. When we finished, we ran down to get some dinner (Dinosaur bones? How medieval do they think we are? We said medieval not primordial!) Still it was a good buffet. We didn't do much in the way of running around since we were all tired.

Saturday we got to sleep in a bit, get dressed up and have breakfast. We made quite an entrance in our Venetian and otherwise Italian dresses. Fearga's dress was a stunning gold shot black velvet with lots of trim. Karis was in a great red venetian, I was in my pink venetian, and Trudi was in her new red wool coteharde. People stopped and stared...it was great!

I was really really disappointed that the seneschal's meeting interfered with the Artisan's tea. The instructions said that we had to attend for the entire two hours in order to display. Humbug. When someone implied that I should have planned better, I was a little miffed. I informed her that I did not have any control over when the meetings were scheduled. I think she apologized to Fearga about it later. Perhaps she didn't mean it the way it sounded. Still I was disappointed enough without having someone blame me for it. It turned out that the tea was incredibly crowded and people didn't feel like they got the feedback they wanted. I guess it's a learning experience for the Laurels too.

I decide to avoid the majority of court. I popped in now and again to see where they were at and to see their Majesties incredible attire. They did 14th Century beautifully. Of course it took a large team to get them clothed and they did a fabulous job. I finally realize I was feeling really poorly and went to get some lunch. Amazing how getting my blood sugar back up helped my overall well-being.

I went shopping with Trudchen and saw a couple of fabrics that would be really nice but I wanted to check with Fearga on the usage.

The dames had peerage meetings is in the evening so I went and had dinner with some new acquaintances. We had quite the time and if someone ever asks if we lead tested the coronets, I'm going to fall to the floor in hysterics.

I can't recall at what point I was able to grab Fearga for shopping but I did purchase some lovely black wool and linen--7.75 yards of wool and 4 yards of linen. It will be fun to make something with it.

That evening, everyone was looking forward to partying, I sat and read for a while to relax from my people overload. I tried to join the party but it was loud and dark, I couldn't talk to people, and there were people I didn't want to talk to. So I went back to my room after a few minutes and read my book. I hear I missed a good time--somehow, even when I'm there, I miss it.

Sunday I had to wake everyone up so we could have breakfast before I went to watch the QRC. I didn't bring my rapier gear at all-- I haven't been fighting and I certainly didn't want to win something that came with an obligation (even though I didn't have a snowball's chance). So I watched and played seneschal for a few minutes with the Kingdom seneschal. I got some very nice feed back about how people are feeling about having me as the seneschal. That made me feel really good. JE and CE were unable to come over since CE was sick. CJ was there but we didn't get to visit much. The ladies wanted to get on the road before too late so I wasn't able to stay for the whole competition. I did get to visit with some people while I was there. I did become obvious that unless I as a rapier fighter, for some fighters, I wasn't worth talking to...Even if they knew I have fought. That was disappointing. It makes me very conscious of the fact that I am not a rapier fighter- it's something I do, not who I am. I'm trying to find a balance between my interests.

The trip home was uneventful and involved more giggling and talking. All together a lovely trip.
