Yeay for holidays
Dec. 22nd, 2006 01:11 pmToday is the classified staff's Christmas Eve holiday so I don't have to be at work. Hallelujah!! I stayed up until 2 this morning finishing the cross stitch for my brother- I have to do the outline and lettering yet but the crosses are done. I love the way it looks. I have to find a frame yet. I guess that we are going to try to go down to Medford this weekend to drop off gifts at T's GF's family's house so that the kids get them. Hence the push last night and this morning.
This is dependent on my grandmother's health. The family made the decision to sign a DNR order yesterday and they will be talking about Hospice today. Her body is making the blood cells that she needs but they are not able to be effective, due to her age (I guess). This means that it's not Leukemia. I think the decision has been made to discontinue her regular blood transfusions. The iron build up is damaging her kidneys. Since she's been dependent on these transfusions every two weeks it's likely that it will be a matter of days or a few weeks. But who knows. Mom and Dad have been in Vancouver since Tuesday. Grandpa had had cataract surgery also so it's been a divide and conquer kind of week for them. Mom's been sitting with Grandma and Dad's been ferrying Grandpa to appointments. In her more child like state, grandma has been more effusive with her love (rather than the typical English lady). Yesterday while mom was sitting by her bed she opened her eyes, saw mom and gave a huge grin. "I really do love you," she told mom. This is my dad's mother so it's very special for Mom to hear that. Still it makes us cry. The waiting and caretaking is very difficult. No one wants her to go but it's only a matter of time.
And just when I think I can't stop the tears, my kitties do something supremely silly. Just now the kitten was so grooving on the bath and lovefest she was getting from Sinatra that she fell off the chair. "Oops, oh... I meant to do that." Silly kitties. I am glad I have cat tv.
