I had a lovely time at crown this weekend. Although I've decided that work is going to be inversely proportionate to the enjoyment I had the previous weekend (read it sucks!).
I got in late Friday and just threw my bedroll and clothes on the floor of Kit and Meag's tent for the night. The Cadet tournament was at 9 in the morning so I figured to set up my tent after it was completed. My win/loss ratio wasn't great but I felt like I was in good form and I had a good time. I had several pretty kills and my technique seems to be improving. After the tourney I went back to camp to set up my tent. It was threatening to rain and so some of the Clan Carne people helped me get the roof up and the bed and table set up. It is so pleasant to have helpful, caring people around. I can set everything up myself but it was so much nicer and faster to have their help.
I wandered back towards the Eric when I was done, looking for R. and M. and the possibility of lunch. I didn't find them but instead found Travis who took one look at me and directed me to a chair. It was 3:30 and I'd not eaten since before the tournament. My blood sugar was low and I was shaking and trembling. He walked me over to Daybreak coffee and I told Dave that my blood sugar was low. He immediately supplied me with a chicken sandwich and refused to let either of us pay for it. I sat and ate, Travis checked my pulse and my shaking every few minutes. (Those silly nurses.)
When he was certain I was stable enough to leave alone he went hunting for fruit for me. He returned after a few minutes with oranges and nearly black bananas. I ate the oranges and let him return the bananas to their generous donor. I still was shaking a bit but much better and he had some place he needed to be so we started looking for one of the camp that could stay with me. I think I didn't really need a babysitter but I allowed it. When I needed to use the biffy he refused to let me lock the door and stood guard instead. *rolling eyes*
Court was called about 6:00 and we were told that we needed the rapier fighters to be there, which usually means they are going to make a White Scarf. They actually made two, Wulfgang von Bremen and Samuel MacTavish. There was much grumbling from the Carne camp that Conal MacLaren wasn't one of the ones selected. Conal was disappointed too. I don't know what makes everyone think that he is ready. I don't know that he isn't but why should everyone think that he is? Poor guy, though, the request for rapier fighters to come to court got translated into, "they are going to make a WS from Clan Carne." No wonder everyone gets their hopes up. I tried to stem the enthusiastic gushing at the time but it was beyond me.
