One Great Knitter

Write about a knitter whose work (whether because of project choice, photography, styling, scale of projects, stash, etc) you enjoy. If they have an enjoyable blog, you might find it a good opportunity to send a smile their way.

There are a lot of inspiring knitters out there. I'll focus on the published ones that I know.

I religiously read the blog of Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. She is funny, imminently practical, and richly human. Her blog talks about knitting, her books and her family. She can be laugh out loud funny or bring you to your knees with tears. She's so easy to identify with and she doesn't try to say she is anything she isn't.

Anne Hanson of Knitspot fame (and also the designer of Sprossling, mentioned yesterday) also has a regular blog which is filled with beautiful projects, funny stories and regular episodes about produce and cooking. I find her lace projects inspiring and I am in awe of her creative process (and her garden). Patterns just seem to float into her head and off her needles- although I know she often has to spend time reworking as she goes.

I love the design work of Joan McGowan-Michael of White Lies Design. She is the designer of Ruby mentioned in a couple of previous posts. Her designs are feminine, flattering and come in a variety of sizes. She also has a blog but it doesn't appeal to me quite as much; It focuses on putting together full outfits which include knitted pieces.

I also appreciate the work that was done by Elizabeth Zimmerman. She broke knitting patterns down into logical sequences which would make patterns (and resizing patterns) more approachable and designing possible for even the very beginner.

Cookie A has some very interesting sock books which incorporate a lot of different types of stitches. They always seem to be unique designs (which given the number of sock patterns available out there is quite a feat, no pun intended). Her year seems to have sunk into oblivion but until this year her blog was updated regularly also.
